Definitions

“Service” means BUKI's online tools that help you create a personalized storybook (story text, character names, images/illustrations, cover) and, if purchased, printing and delivery.

“Book” means the personalized storybook output (digital preview and, if purchased, the printed book).

“Your Content” means anything you submit or upload (names, dedications, prompts, text, photos, likenesses, preferences).

“BUKI Content” means our platform, templates, layouts, artwork styles, software, branding, and any non-user-specific materials.

“Final Proof” means the version you approve for printing/delivery.

Eligibility, accounts, and parent/guardian role

Age and capacity. You must be at least 18 and legally able to form a contract.

Child data / parental responsibility. If you submit a child's personal data (including name or photo), you confirm you are the child's parent/legal guardian or have permission from someone who is. This supports lawful handling of children's information.

Account security. You are responsible for keeping login credentials secure and for all activity on your account.

What BUKI provides

Core workflow. The Service generally works as follows: (a) you enter personalization details; (b) BUKI generates a draft book; (c) you can review and edit pages; (d) you approve a Final Proof; (e) if you purchase printing, we print and ship.

AI and automation. Some or all story text and illustrations may be generated with automated tools. Because automated generation can make mistakes, you must review the Final Proof carefully (names, spelling, appropriateness) before approval.

Orders, contract formation, and acceptance

Invitations vs acceptance. Your on-site selections are an invitation to purchase. A legally binding contract forms when we send an Order Confirmation email (or equivalent confirmation in a durable medium).

Final Proof approval is your acceptance for printing. Printing starts only after you click Approve/Confirm Final Proof (or equivalent). After approval, changes may be impossible or costly; see cancellations below.

Pricing, payment, and taxes

Prices. Prices are shown at checkout in your local currency.

Delivery charges. Delivery/shipping fees, if any, are shown before you pay.

Taxes/VAT. Prices state whether they include VAT. Some printed books/e-publications may be zero-rated in the UK, but VAT treatment depends on the product and circumstances; if VAT applies we will show it at checkout.

Payment. We accept payment via Stripe. Payment is usually taken at order.

No hidden add-ons. Optional extras (gift wrap, upgrades) must be actively selected by you; we do not use pre-ticked boxes for paid extras.

Promo codes. Discount codes are subject to stated conditions and may be withdrawn for misuse.

Plain-language for parents: You'll see the full price (including shipping and any tax) before paying. Extras won't be added unless you choose them.

Production timelines and delivery

On-screen generation time. Draft creation is usually quick, but generation time depends on demand and technical factors.

Printing timeline (estimate). After Final Proof approval, printing typically takes 3–10 business days.

Delivery timeline (estimate). Delivery typically takes 5–15 business days after dispatch, depending on destination and courier.

Legal delivery backstop. If we do not agree a specific delivery date with you, UK law generally expects delivery without undue delay and in any event within 30 days of contract formation (subject to customer-caused delays).

Customer-caused delay. Delivery estimates assume you approve your Final Proof promptly. If you delay approval, delivery estimates shift accordingly.

Risk and title. For consumer deliveries, risk remains with us until the goods are in the physical possession of you or a person you nominate.

Digital content

Digital copy. If we provide a downloadable PDF/e-book, this is “digital content.”

Immediate supply opt-in. If you want immediate access to digital content during any cancellation period that would otherwise apply, the checkout must capture your express consent and acknowledgment that you may lose the right to cancel once supply/download begins.

Compatibility. You are responsible for ensuring your device can open standard formats (e.g., PDF).

Cancellations, refunds, and returns

Change-of-mind cancellations (bespoke/personalised books). Because our printed books are made to your specifications/clearly personalised, the usual 14-day “cooling off” cancellation right for distance sales generally does not apply to the printed book once it is personalised/produced.

Goodwill cancellations. If you contact us quickly and we have not started printing, we may (at our discretion) cancel and refund, potentially minus non-recoverable costs already incurred (e.g., payment processing fees where permitted). This is a voluntary policy and does not limit your statutory rights.

Faulty, misprinted, or damaged goods. If your printed book is faulty, misprinted, not as described, or damaged in transit, you have statutory rights. We will offer an appropriate remedy (replacement, repair if possible, or refund/price reduction depending on circumstances).

Short-term right to reject. UK consumers generally have a “short-term right to reject” faulty goods within the first 30 days (subject to legal conditions).

Incorrect personalisation due to your input. If you approved a Final Proof with spelling or content errors that came from Your Content, this is not a “fault” by us. We may offer a discounted reprint at our discretion.

Non-delivery / lost parcels. If the parcel is lost or not delivered, contact us. If we confirm loss, we will reprint/replace or refund as appropriate.

How to report an issue. Email buki@bu-ki.com with your order number and photos (for print defects/damage).

Returns handling. We may not require you to return a defective or damaged personalised book where a photo is sufficient to verify the issue; where return is required, we will tell you how and who pays.

Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights. You retain all consumer rights that cannot legally be limited.

Your content, safety rules, and moderation

Your warranties. You promise that: (a) you own or have permission to use/upload Your Content; (b) uploading and our use of it to produce the Book does not infringe others' rights; (c) you have permission from a parent/guardian for any child or minor depicted or named (if not your own child).

Prohibited content. You must not submit content that is illegal, sexually explicit involving minors, hateful, harassing, violent, or otherwise inappropriate for children, or that encourages dangerous activity.

Our moderation rights. We may refuse, suspend, or cancel processing (and refuse to print) if Your Content breaches these Terms or poses safety/legal risk. Where legally required, we may report content to relevant authorities.

No user-to-user publishing. The Service is for generating books for you; it is not a social network or public posting service.

Intellectual property and licenses

Ownership of Your Content. You retain ownership of Your Content.

License you grant to BUKI. You grant BUKI a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use Your Content solely to: (a) create, render, and print your Book; (b) provide customer support; (c) prevent fraud, ensure security, and maintain the Service.

What you receive. Once paid (and subject to these Terms), you receive a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use your Book for personal, non-commercial purposes (reading, gifting, printing additional personal copies where permitted, sharing with close family).

What you may not do. You may not resell, commercially exploit, mass-distribute, or use the Book or BUKI Content for commercial purposes without written permission.

BUKI Content ownership. We own (or license) BUKI Content, including templates, layouts, style systems, and software. Nothing transfers ownership of BUKI Content to you.

Marketing use of your child's Book. We will not publicly use your child's name/photo or personalised pages for marketing without your explicit consent.

Privacy, data protection, and cookies

Privacy Policy applies. Our handling of personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy.

Children's data. We treat children's data carefully and design the service with child-safety and privacy in mind consistent with UK expectations for services likely to be accessed by children.

International transfers. Some service providers may process data outside the UK. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards such as UK standard data protection clauses (IDTA/Addendum).

Cookies. We use cookies and similar technologies. Essential cookies are required for the platform to function; non-essential cookies are managed via the cookie banner and require your consent.

Third-party services

Third-party providers. We may use third parties for: payment processing, cloud hosting, analytics, AI/ML infrastructure, printing, and shipping. We remain responsible for delivering your order as trader, even if production/shipping is performed by partners.

Liability and disclaimers

Consumer rights preserved. Nothing in these Terms limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.

No exclusion for key non-excludable items. We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation.

Service availability. The Service may occasionally be unavailable for maintenance or technical reasons.

AI limitations. Automated generation may produce unexpected results; you are responsible for checking the Final Proof before approval.

Liability cap (business users only). If you are not a consumer (i.e., you are using the Service in the course of business), our liability is limited to the value of the order, to the extent permitted by law.

Indirect losses. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses.

Indemnity

Your indemnity. If your breach of these Terms or unlawful Your Content causes us loss (e.g., third-party claim), you agree to indemnify us for reasonable related costs, to the extent permitted by law (and not applicable in a way that would be unfair to consumers).

Termination

By you. You may stop using the Service at any time.

By us. We may suspend or terminate accounts for misuse, prohibited content, fraud, or security reasons, and may refuse future orders.

Changes to these Terms

Updates. We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the latest version on our site and indicate the effective date.

Orders not affected. Terms in place at the time of your Order Confirmation apply to that order unless a change is required by law.

Complaints and dispute resolution

Complaints. Contact buki@bu-ki.com first so we can try to resolve your issue.

ADR (UK). UK traders generally don't have to participate in ADR unless required, but if we cannot resolve your complaint we may provide details of an approved ADR provider and state whether we will engage.

Governing law. These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales and disputes are subject to the courts of England and Wales (subject to any mandatory consumer protections that apply in your country of residence).
